What are the system requirements for running cineSync?

(Macintosh)

  • Mac OS X 10.4.9 or later
  • QuickTime 7 or later
  • An internet connection that does not block port 5068
  • 500 MHz Power PC G4 or faster Macintosh Computer
  • At least 256 MB of RAM and at least 16MB of video memory

(Windows)

  • Windows XP (Service Pack 2)
  • QuickTime 7 or later
  • An internet connection that does not block port 5068
  • 1.5 GHz Intel Pentium class or better processor
  • At least 256 MB of RAM and at least 32MB of video memory

NOTE - System requirements are based on playing a (320 x 240) movie encoded using H.264

What files can I view in cineSync?
cineSync supports most of the major movie and image formats that are available in QuickTime; The basic rule of thumb is; If you can view it in QuickTime, then you can view it in cineSync.
Can I view PDFs in cineSync?
You can view PDFs in cineSync for Mac OS X; You currently can not view PDFs in cineSync for Windows.
How do I setup my Firewall to use cineSync?
cineSync uses an outgoing TCP port of 5068, and requires connections to be available to the following IP addresses:
  • 72.249.190.147
  • 207.210.221.80
While it is rare for firewalls to block outgoing TCP ports, if you experience connection problems it is worth checking that your firewall is not blocking this outgoing port.
How much does it cost to use cineSync?
cineSync is free to use for people who simply want to join an existing session. The ability to host your own sessions requires a paid cineSync account. Account packages are available as monthly, 6 month and 12 month subscriptions priced according to the maximum number of people you'd like to participate in your sessions; further information can be found here.
How do I Report Bugs or Suggest Features?
You can report bugs or suggest features by sending us an email. Alternatively you can send your ideas to us directly from the cineSync Menu on Mac OS X or from the Help Menu on Windows.
How secure is cineSync?
cineSync is secure by design; only synchronisation data such as 'I am on frame 10' and 'I have drawn a line here' are sent to the other clients in a session. In addition to this all communication is sent over an encrypted SSL connection.
Can the participants in a single session be on any Operating System?
Yes, the participants in a single cineSync session can join from cineSync for Windows, cineSync for Mac OS X or both.
Is it possible to play HD resolution QuickTimes in cineSync?
cineSync can play back any media that QuickTime can play back. If your machine is capable of playing back HD resolution QuickTimes, then you will be able to play them back in cineSync.
What happens if a QuickTime does not play back in real time on one machine?
If a QuickTime does not play back in real time on one machine, the playback of other machines in the session will not be adversely affected.
