Happy Birthday cineSync!
Wednesday, 01 November 2006
Rising Sun Research celebrates the first birthday of the world's preferred visual media review tool.
Since its commercial release in November 2005, cineSync has become the preferred software tool in the international film industry for reviewing, annotating, discussing and approving picture edits, visual effects shots, credit sequences and other aspects of post production. An integral part of the workflow of major Hollywood productions such as X-Men: The Last Stand, Poseidon, Superman Returns and Charlotte's Web, cineSync has quickly become the market leading review tool due to its reliability, practicality and ease of use. cineSync is also seeing substantial use in episodic television, including the 40 part animated TV series Animalia for the BBC and Nickelodeon.
On X-Men: The Last Stand, VFX Supervisor John Bruno had to co-ordinate and review work being completed in England, New Zealand, Canada and the US. "Previously, the only way to check work in progress from different parts of the world was to either go to the facility, receive tapes or DVDs or wait for film outs, then give comments by phone or e-mail. With cineSync it was almost like being there. I was never out of the loop."
Mark Stetson, a VFX Supervisor on many big budget Hollywood productions says "The drawing tools in cineSync are great for me. I am a visual thinker, so I love to draw in cineSync as I discuss shot development".
The substantial experience of Rising Sun Research in delivering high quality software tools (such as the highly successful cineSpace Colour Management System) has been a telling factor in the success of cineSync. The company was founded in 1999 and enjoys a close relationship with customers such as Weta Digital, Industrial Light and Magic, Frantic Films, The Moving Picture Company, Framestore CFC, Meteor Studios, The Orphanage and Rising Sun Pictures. Feedback from these companies has been an integral part of the development process, ensuring that cineSync is consistently delivering the best possible service and remains aligned with ever changing workflow demands.
The upcoming release of cineSync 1.2 later this month will include many new features developed in conjunction with key cineSync clients, including a Buddy List, a 'sticky-note' text drawing tool, refined line, arrow and circle drawing tools, session saving capability and support for Final Cut Pro XML.
"cineSync was the first public, commercially available offering able to remotely review, annotate and synchronise the viewing of digital frame-based media" states Clint Walker, CEO of Rising Sun Research. "Over the past year, we have proven ourselves with some of the most demanding users at the highest levels of the industry. We will continue to push the envelope in terms of what can be achieved and we're looking forward to big things in the future".
