Great communication from Inception to post
Wednesday, 11 August 2010
Christopher Nolan's latest film Inception had what he describes as "a ‘70s model of how the visual effects team is incorporated into the production". Only one VFX house, Double Negative in London, was hired to complete all the visual effects work in the film. Because Nolan was only working with one VFX house, he was able to work with "just one set of people who were then dedicated to the project and who felt very much a part of the whole creative process".
The only problem was that Nolan himself was based in LA, half a world away. So how does a director work so closely with a VFX company and do such personal, creative, spectacular work? In an interview with Post, Nolan explains:
"We’d hook up via cineSync every day and conference in to discuss the shots and any changes, and we could speak to each other in realtime and examine the shot. It’s a very efficient way of working — in fact, for me it’s far more efficient than being in the same city. It’s all focused communication on exactly that show you’re working on and what’s in frame, and there’s no time wasted driving across town. It’s right there."
If you haven't seen Inception yet, do yourself a favour. The offical site is here. For the cineSync team, Inception is our favourite movie of the year and we're so proud to be a part of the making of it.
